TiVO Blog

TiVo just opened their TiVo Blog today. I hope one of their first posts isn't "Going Out of Business".

Dude...

... you just got served. I find it delicious irony that his visage is sold within a capitalist society on practically everything. You'd think he was a real proponent of the system instead of it's pretty-boy nemesis.

Now in Technicolor

Chris Coyne's Context Free Design Grammar has recently been updated to include Hues in the rendering. There's some great pics in the forums if you are interested to demonstrate this new feature. Incidently he's put of my work into his gallery. Pattern9, Pattern 10, Forktree and HexRoot are some of my creations. Fear my fevered imaginations!

Cats in Sinks

I'm all for felines and the I'm really a fan of sinks but the unholy union of the two is a force of great power over humans. ...Can't ... look ... away ... too adorable! Purring sounds ... in my ... ears ... mouth making ... cooing sounds ... spirit breaking ... I like Cats in Sinks!

Monad

Have you heard about Monad? It's going to be Window's new CLI in longhorn, though it's not specific to longhorn, it's specific to .NET. The great thing about it is that it's basically an object based CLI instead of a text based CLI. Conceptually it's got some similarities to Apple's Automator; though I don't know if it will more or less powerful. After watching the video, I was motivated to sign up for the beta. The video presentation is pretty good from a technical perspective although the lead architect is a bit of a goofball. Who honestly uses the phrase, "all the way to 11", or describes things as "rich" (other than chocolate)? Goofballs; that's who.

DIY: Uniterruptible Power Supply

If you've used any UPS for any length of time past 1998 you probably have a pretty dismal picture of their reliability, capability and accuracy (i.e.: they're crap). Well now you can do something about it! Built your own! I found this on hack-a-day.

Lazy Days of ... every season!

It seems that 77% of the French interviewed for a survey on their opinions about the Government regulation of the French work week wanted the work week to stay at 35 hours. Only 18% were willing to work a longer week. I might add that this regulation states that they cannot work more than 35 hours a week, even if they want to. Now, enforcement of this law is lax, so those with strong work ethics can help shoulder the burden of the rest (which they should not). Shrug, I say! Source is a Netscape News article from Reuters
